Kampala City Council (KCC) in conjunction with Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers Association (UTODA) has outlined its plan to construct hotels around both Old and New Taxi Parks.
The Deputy Mayor of Kampala, Florence Namayanja says that the project would cost them over 24.2 billion shillings.
UTODA and KCC are planning to construct hotels in the taxi parks at a time when President Museveni has given out the plots of land around Old Taxi Park to the sitting tenants to develop the area.
Namayanja says Museveni has no constitutional mandate to distribute land in Kampala against the wishes of Kampala City Council.
She says the hotels would be for commercial purposes but they will give free accommodations to passengers who would be stranded in the taxi parks.
Namayanja says the hotels will be very affordable, convenient and price friendly.
